Ford Takes a big step into EV

Ford has announced they will team up with Rivian, investing $500 million to develop an electric battery plug vehicles for Ford. Ford currently holds no electric plug in vehicle (not including hybrid’s) and seems to be joining the party filled with big name auto makers on the electric plug in field.

Although Ford is still working on their own production line of electric vehicles, they look to add the assets of Rivian to their future production on cars such as the F-150.

Ford plans to invest up to $11 billion dollars into the future of electric and self driving cars, and they are confident this is the future of the auto industry, and this $500 million is the start to that direction.

Ford joins Amazon who has also invested $700 million into Rivian, the company currently has not produced a fully electric pick up truck but have plans for their battery to be able to travel 400 miles on a single charge.

“We don’t have all the answers and we don’t pretend to,” said Joe Hinrichs, president of Ford’s automotive unit. “We believe the next decade will be a transformative time in terms of electrification.”

We are not sure what the future holds, but we do know Rivian is one step closer to being a part of a big change!
