Dieselgate Scandal Hits Home For Formal CEO Martin Winerkorn

As the Dieselgate repercussions are still being felt throughout Volkswagen, fresh charges were brought up against former Volkswagen Group CEO Martin Winterkorn in Germany.

In May of 2018, Winterkorn was formally charged with conspiracy by the United States Justice department for his part in the scandal. Fortunately for him (for the time being at any rate) residing in Germany meant that the likelihood of him having to answer questions to US officials was minimum since Germany doesn’t normally extradite citizens.

However with the latest charges being brought up against by German Prosecutors, his good luck might just run out. The prosecutors claim that Winterkorn knew about the emissions cheating software back in 2014 and chose to cover it up from authorities – a claim he denies strongly stating that he only found out right before the scandal became public. If he is proven guilty, the 71 year old could face anywhere from 10 months to 10 years in prison.
