The Rapide E – Aston Martin’s Ticket Into The EV Battle

Based off of the Aston Martin Rapide, the Rapide E is Aston Martin’s first step towards joining the fray of fully electric vehicles.

Powered by a pair of motors mounted on the rear axle, the Rapide E will be good for a 0 to 62 mph sprint in 4.2 seconds thanks to the little over 600 bhp the motors produce.

The Rapide E will also be pretty clever in the way it works the air around it. Without the hassle of routing an exhaust system, the undercarriage will have a new design that will run into the rear diffuser for better efficiency. The light weight wheels have been design to reduce drag without affecting the brakes cooling and the low-rolling-resistance Pirelli tires help bring the overall aerodynamic efficiency up eight percent over there gasoline version.

The 65kWh batteries are mounted where the engine and gearbox used to be, and will have a range of only 200 miles according to the WLTP cycle test. That’s quite a ways off Tesla, but the 800v electrical system will make sure that changing speeds will be quick ( up to 80% of course).

Only 155 are in the works to be built so if you are interested in picking up the stunning looking, electric GT cruiser, you better have your bank accounts ready – and know the right people of course.
